Isolation Journals Day 53: This Is Just To Say

Read more about Suleika Jaouad’s Isolation Journals.

by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

Your prompt for today:

Write a variation on “This Is Just to Say” by William Carlos Williams. It could be a parody of an apology, or an homage to the everyday messiness that we often convey through to-do lists or passive-aggressive notes left on the kitchen table. Make it short, and make it snappy, and make it sweet.

This Is Just To Say

A poem

I have watched
the next episode
of Tiger King
without you

I know
we were
saving it
for tonight

Forgive me
Netflix said
“Next Episode”
and didn’t stop

Though I do know the utter betrayal the poem describes, the speaker is definitely not me. I tried to watch “Tiger King” months ago and….I couldn’t finish it. 🤷

Writing your name on the list…
Yay! You're on the list.
