DAY 53 – THIS IS JUST TO SAY
by William Carlos Williams
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
Your prompt for today:
Write a variation on “This Is Just to Say” by William Carlos Williams. It could be a parody of an apology, or an homage to the everyday messiness that we often convey through to-do lists or passive-aggressive notes left on the kitchen table. Make it short, and make it snappy, and make it sweet.
This Is Just To Say
5.23.2020
A poem
I have watched
the next episode
of Tiger King
without you
I know
we were
saving it
for tonight
Forgive me
Netflix said
“Next Episode”
and didn’t stop
Note:
Though I do know the utter betrayal the poem describes, the speaker is definitely not me. I tried to watch “Tiger King” months ago and….I couldn’t finish it. 🤷
